Blogging is talking

The objective of blogging is to create a medium in which conversations can be had directly between students about the text. The sole function is not to always to pull some deeper meaning out of the text or construct a well thought out thesis in fact sometimes topic sentences are absent altogether. All that has to transpire is a conversation, similar to one you would have with a friend talking about what you’ve read. This can be summed up by the first sentence under “how to write blog posts” which states, “Each post needs only to show that you’ve read actively and meaningfully.”
The function of blogging directly correlates with the activities preformed in class. These two actions are just different means of accomplishing the same goal. Read and talk about what you have read. They very fact that you are going to be engaged in discussion about a work of literature generally promotes a closer reading of the text. To properly engage in conversation you must be knowledge about the text which requires more than just skimming over the pages. Factors like words choice, theme, and relation to personal experience need to be taken into account.
The activities in class are excellent but do have their flaws witch mainly revolve around time constraints and participation, this is where blogging comes in. There are much less limiting factor when it comes to posting online. You have hours to compile your thoughts so you’re not rushed for ideas. When talking to others online you are not bound by a 50 minute time limit. Most importantly blogging is mandatory, not all people feel the need to share their opinions at every given opportunity but when your grade depends on it there is a good chance for a more diverse array of ideas presented to talk about.
